# §285d–2. Research and training


The [Director](/usc/42/11851.md?p=5) of the Institute shall—

- (1) carry out [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) of support for research and training (other than training for which Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research [Service](/usc/42/201.md?p=a) Awards may be made under [section 288 of this title](/usc/42/288.md)) in the diagnosis, prevention, and [treatment](/usc/42/11851.md?p=11) of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases, including support for training in medical [schools](/usc/42/300j–21.md?p=6), graduate clinical training, graduate training in epidemiology, epidemiology studies, clinical trials, and interdisciplinary research [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4); and
- (2) establish [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) of evaluation, planning, and dissemination of knowledge related to such research and training.
