# §247b–8. Fellowship and training programs


The [Secretary](/usc/42/201.md?p=c), acting through the [Director](/usc/42/11851.md?p=5) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shall establish fellowship and training [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) to be conducted by such Centers to train individuals to develop skills in epidemiology, surveillance, laboratory analysis, and other disease detection and prevention methods. Such [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) shall be designed to enable health professionals and health personnel trained under such [programs](/usc/42/274l–1.md?p=4) to work, after receiving such training, in local, [State](/usc/42/201.md?p=f), national, and international efforts toward the prevention and control of diseases, injuries, and disabilities. Such fellowships and training may be administered through the use of either appointment or nonappointment procedures.
