# §2292. Authorization of appropriations for research and development program; authority to enter into contracts; period of contracts; equivalent amounts for research and development program


There is authorized to be appropriated to the [Commission](/usc/42/2014.md?p=f), in accordance with the provisions of [section 2017(a)(2) of this title](/usc/42/2017.md), the sum of $3,000,000 as an initial authorization for fiscal year 1959 for use in a cooperative program of [research and development](/usc/42/2014.md?p=x) in connection with the types of reactors selected by the [Commission](/usc/42/2014.md?p=f) and [the Community](/usc/42/2291.md?p=a) under the [joint program](/usc/42/2291.md?p=c). The [Commission](/usc/42/2014.md?p=f) may enter into contracts for such periods as it deems necessary, but in no event to exceed five years, for the purpose of conducting the [research and development](/usc/42/2014.md?p=x) program authorized by this section: Provided, That [the Community](/usc/42/2291.md?p=a) authorizes an equivalent amount for use in the cooperative program of [research and development](/usc/42/2014.md?p=x).
