# §17388. Advisory committee

- (a) **In general—** Not later than 180 days after December 27, 2020, the [Secretary](/usc/42/17001.md?p=3) shall designate an existing [advisory committee](/usc/42/17061.md?p=2) to advise the [Secretary](/usc/42/17001.md?p=3) on the authorization of research, development, and demonstration [projects](/usc/42/13641.md?p=2) under sections [17384](/usc/42/17384.md) and [17384a](/usc/42/17384a.md) of this title.
- (b) **Responsibility—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/17001.md?p=3) shall annually solicit from the [advisory committee](/usc/42/17061.md?p=2)—
  - (1) comments to identify grid [modernization](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=9) technology needs;
  - (2) an assessment of the progress of the research activities on grid [modernization](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=9); and
  - (3) assistance in annually updating grid [modernization](/usc/42/300s–3.md?p=9) technology roadmaps.
