# §16158. Codes and standards

- (a) **In general—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/15801.md?p=4), in cooperation with the [Task Force](/usc/42/16152.md?p=7), shall provide grants to, or offer to enter into contracts with, such professional organizations, public service organizations, and government [agencies](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1) as the [Secretary](/usc/42/15801.md?p=4) determines appropriate to support timely and extensive development of safety codes and standards relating to [fuel cell](/usc/42/16152.md?p=2) vehicles, [hydrogen](/usc/42/16152.md?p=1) energy systems, and [stationary](/usc/42/16121.md?p=3), [portable](/usc/42/16152.md?p=6), and micro [fuel cells](/usc/42/16152.md?p=2).
- (b) **Educational efforts—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/15801.md?p=4) shall support educational efforts by organizations and [agencies](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1) described in [subsection (a)](#a) to share information, including information relating to best [practices](/usc/42/17061.md?p=19), among those organizations and [agencies](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1).
- (c) **Authorization of appropriations—** There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section—
  - (1) $4,000,000 for fiscal year 2006;
  - (2) $7,000,000 for fiscal year 2007;
  - (3) $8,000,000 for fiscal year 2008;
  - (4) $10,000,000 for fiscal year 2009;
  - (5) $9,000,000 for fiscal year 2010; and
  - (6) such sums as are necessary for each of fiscal years 2011 through 2020.
