# §16011. Demonstration hydrogen production at existing nuclear power plants

- (a) **Demonstration projects—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/15801.md?p=4) shall provide for the establishment of 2 [projects](/usc/42/16371.md?p=12) in geographic areas that are regionally and climatically diverse to demonstrate the commercial production of hydrogen at existing nuclear power plants.
- (b) **Economic analysis—** Prior to making an award under [subsection (a)](#a), the [Secretary](/usc/42/15801.md?p=4) shall determine whether the use of existing nuclear power plants is a cost-effective means of producing hydrogen.
- (c) **Authorization of appropriations—** There are authorized to be appropriated to the [Secretary](/usc/42/15801.md?p=4) for the purposes of carrying out this section not more than $100,000,000.
