# §1437bbb–8. Definitions


For purposes of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply:

- (1) **Jurisdiction—** The term “jurisdiction” means—
  - (A) a [unit of general local government](/usc/42/11851.md?p=12) (as such term is defined in [section 12704 of this title](/usc/42/12704.md)) that has boundaries, for purposes of carrying out this subchapter, that—
    - (i) wholly contain the area within which a public housing [agency](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1) is authorized to operate; and
    - (ii) do not contain any areas contained within the boundaries of any other [participating jurisdiction](#2); and
  - (B) a consortia of such units of general local government, organized for purposes of this subchapter.
- (2) **Participating jurisdiction—** The term “participating jurisdiction” means, with respect to a period for which such an agreement is made, a [jurisdiction](#1) that has entered into an agreement under [section 1437bbb–5(b)(3) of this title](/usc/42/1437bbb–5.md?p=b-3) to receive assistance pursuant to this subchapter for such fiscal year.
