# §1306b. State data exchanges


Whenever the Commissioner of [Social](/usc/42/1397j.md?p=20) Security requests information from a [State](/usc/42/619.md?p=5) for the purpose of ascertaining an individual’s eligibility for benefits (or the correct amount of such benefits) under subchapter II or XVI of this chapter, the [standards](/usc/42/1320d.md?p=7) of the Commissioner promulgated pursuant to [section 1306 of this title](/usc/42/1306.md) or any other Federal law for the use, safeguarding, and disclosure of information are deemed to meet any [standards](/usc/42/1320d.md?p=7) of the [State](/usc/42/619.md?p=5) that would otherwise apply to the disclosure of information by the [State](/usc/42/619.md?p=5) to the Commissioner.
