# §12706. Certification


The [Secretary](/usc/42/12704.md?p=16) shall, by regulation or otherwise, as deemed by the [Secretary](/usc/42/12704.md?p=16) to be appropriate, require any application for [housing assistance](/usc/42/13641.md?p=3) under subchapter II of this chapter, assistance under the [Housing](/usc/42/12704.md?p=8) and Community Development Act of 1974, or assistance under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act [[42 U.S.C. 11301](/usc/42/11301.md) et seq.], to contain or be accompanied by a [certification](/usc/42/12704.md?p=21) by an appropriate [State](/usc/42/12704.md?p=2) or local public official that the proposed [housing](/usc/42/12704.md?p=8) activities are consistent with the [housing](/usc/42/12704.md?p=8) strategy of the [jurisdiction](/usc/42/12704.md?p=3) to be served.
