# §12645f. Restrictions on Federal Government and use of Federal funds

- (a) **General prohibition—** Nothing in the national service laws shall be construed to authorize an officer or employee of the Federal Government to mandate, direct, or control a [State](/usc/42/12522.md?p=1), local educational [agency](/usc/42/8262.md?p=1), or school’s curriculum, [program](/usc/42/12626.md?p=8) of instruction, or [allocation](/usc/42/2021b.md?p=2) of [State](/usc/42/12522.md?p=1) or local resources, or mandate a [State](/usc/42/12522.md?p=1) or any subdivision thereof to spend any funds or incur any costs not paid for under this chapter.
- (b) **Prohibition on endorsement of curriculum—** Notwithstanding any other prohibition of Federal law, no funds provided to the [Corporation](/usc/42/2297h.md?p=2) under this chapter may be used by the [Corporation](/usc/42/2297h.md?p=2) to endorse, approve, or sanction any curriculum designed to be used in an elementary school or secondary school.
- (c) **Prohibition on requiring Federal approval or certification standards—** Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal law, not[^1] [State](/usc/42/12522.md?p=1) shall be required to have academic content or student academic achievement standards approved or certified by the Federal Government, in order to receive assistance under this chapter.
