# §11842. Evaluation of drug abuse education and prevention efforts

- (a) **Method—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/242q–4.md?p=2) of Health and Human Services shall develop and conduct a structured evaluation of the different approaches utilized across the Nation to reduce [drug](/usc/42/11851.md?p=4) abuse.
- (b) **Grants—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/242q–4.md?p=2) of Health and Human Services may make grants to or enter into contracts with appropriate entities for the purpose of conducting the evaluations required by [subsection (a)](#a).
- (c) **Time of reports—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/242q–4.md?p=2) shall submit a report based on the evaluations prepared under [subsection (a)](#a) not later than 1 year after November 18, 1988, and another report based on such evaluations not later than 3 years after November 18, 1988. A third report based on such evaluations shall be submitted by the [Secretary](/usc/42/242q–4.md?p=2) not later than January 1, 1994.
- (d) **Authorization of appropriations—** To carry out this section, there are authorized to be appropriated $12,000,000 in fiscal year 1989, and $15,000,000 for each of the fiscal years 1990 through 1993.
