# §10370. Effect

- (a) **In general—** Nothing in this chapter supersedes or limits any existing authority provided, or responsibility conferred, by any provision of law.
- (b) **Effect on State water law—**
  - (1) **In general—** Nothing in this chapter preempts or affects any—
    - (A) [State](/usc/42/2021b.md?p=14) water law; or
    - (B) interstate [compact](/usc/42/2021b.md?p=4) governing water.
  - (2) **Compliance required—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/10362.md?p=18-A) shall comply with applicable [State](/usc/42/2021b.md?p=14) water laws in carrying out this chapter.
