# §10175. Transportation

- (a) **Packaging—** No [spent nuclear fuel](/usc/42/10101.md?p=23) or [high-level radioactive waste](/usc/42/10101.md?p=12) may be transported by or for the [Secretary](/usc/42/10101.md?p=20) under part A or under part C except in [packages](/usc/42/10101.md?p=10) that have been certified for such purpose by the [Commission](/usc/42/10101.md?p=7).
- (b) **Advance notification—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/10101.md?p=20) shall abide by regulations of the [Commission](/usc/42/10101.md?p=7) regarding advance notification of [State](/usc/42/10101.md?p=24) and local governments prior to transportation of [spent nuclear fuel](/usc/42/10101.md?p=23) or [high-level radioactive waste](/usc/42/10101.md?p=12) under part A or under part C.
- (c) **Training for public safety officials—** The [Secretary](/usc/42/10101.md?p=20) shall provide technical assistance and funds to [States](/usc/42/10101.md?p=24) for training for public safety officials of appropriate units of local government and [Indian tribes](/usc/42/10101.md?p=15) through whose jurisdiction the [Secretary](/usc/42/10101.md?p=20) plans to transport [spent nuclear fuel](/usc/42/10101.md?p=23) or [high-level radioactive waste](/usc/42/10101.md?p=12) under part A or under part C. Training shall cover procedures required for safe routine transportation of these materials, as well as procedures for dealing with emergency response situations. The [Waste Fund](/usc/42/10101.md?p=29) shall be the source of funds for work carried out under this subsection.
