# §555. Donation of law enforcement canines to handlers


The head of a [federal agency](/usc/40/102.md?p=5) having control of a canine that has been used by a [federal agency](/usc/40/102.md?p=5) in the performance of law enforcement duties and that has been determined by the agency to be no longer needed for official purposes may donate the canine to an individual who has experience handling canines in the performance of those duties.
