# §8221. Declaration of purpose


The purpose of this subchapter is to authorize the [Secretary](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) to carry out a program of grants to medical schools which have maintained affiliations with the [Department](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) in order to assist such schools to expand and improve their training capacities and to cooperate with institutions of the types assisted under subchapter III of this chapter in carrying out the purposes of such subchapter.
