# §7701. Organization of the Administration

- (a) There is in the Department of Veterans Affairs a [Veterans](/usc/38/101.md?p=2) Benefits Administration. The primary function of the [Veterans](/usc/38/101.md?p=2) Benefits Administration is the administration of nonmedical benefits programs of the [Department](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) which provide assistance to [veterans](/usc/38/101.md?p=2) and their [dependents](/usc/38/3452.md?p=d) and survivors.
- (b) The [Veterans](/usc/38/101.md?p=2) Benefits Administration is under the Under [Secretary](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) for Benefits, who is directly responsible to the [Secretary](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) for the operations of the Administration. The Under [Secretary](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) for Benefits may be referred to as the Chief Benefits Director.
