# §3513. Application


The [parent](/usc/38/101.md?p=5) or [guardian](/usc/38/3501.md?p=a-4) of a person or the [eligible person](/usc/38/3501.md?p=a-1) if such person has attained legal majority for whom educational assistance is sought under this chapter shall submit an application to the [Secretary](/usc/38/4101.md?p=8) which shall be in such form and contain such information as the [Secretary](/usc/38/4101.md?p=8) shall prescribe. If the [Secretary](/usc/38/4101.md?p=8) finds that the person on whose behalf the application is submitted is an [eligible person](/usc/38/3501.md?p=a-1), the [Secretary](/usc/38/4101.md?p=8) shall approve the application provisionally. The [Secretary](/usc/38/4101.md?p=8) shall notify the [parent](/usc/38/101.md?p=5) or [guardian](/usc/38/3501.md?p=a-4) or [eligible person](/usc/38/3501.md?p=a-1) (if the person has attained legal majority) of the provisional approval or of the disapproval of the application.
