# §1837. Duration of health care and benefits provided


The [Secretary](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) shall provide a [covered child](/usc/38/1831.md?p=2) with health care and benefits under this chapter—

- (1) for the duration of the life of the [child](/usc/38/1831.md?p=1); and
- (2) notwithstanding any death of a [parent](/usc/38/101.md?p=5) of the [child](/usc/38/1831.md?p=1) that precedes the death of the [child](/usc/38/1831.md?p=1).
