# §1743. Applications


Payments on account of any [veteran](/usc/38/1101.md?p=1) cared for in a [State home](/usc/38/101.md?p=19) shall be made under this subchapter only from the date the [Secretary](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) receives a request for determination of such [veteran](/usc/38/1101.md?p=1)’s eligibility; however, if such request is received by the [Secretary](/usc/38/101.md?p=1) within ten days after care of such [veteran](/usc/38/1101.md?p=1) begins, payments shall be made on account of such [veteran](/usc/38/1101.md?p=1) from the date care began.
