# §1010. Commissioned officers: promotions; effective date for pay and allowances


An [officer](/usc/37/101.md?p=11) of a uniformed service who is promoted to a [grade](/usc/37/101.md?p=15) above second lieutenant or ensign is entitled to the [pay](/usc/37/101.md?p=21) and allowances of the [grade](/usc/37/101.md?p=15) to which promoted on the effective date of the promotion.
