# §12572. Allotment


From amounts appropriated under [section 14119 of title 42](/usc/42/14119.md), the Director shall allot—

- (1) 80 percent of such amounts to [States](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) on the basis of the number of [law enforcement](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-23) officers in each [State](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) compared to the number of [law enforcement](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-23) officers in all [States](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7); and
- (2) 20 percent of such amounts to [States](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) on the basis of the shortage of [law enforcement](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-23) personnel and the need for assistance under this part in the [State](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) compared to the shortage of [law enforcement](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-23) personnel and the need for assistance under this part in all [States](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7).
