# §12401. Grant program

- (a) **In general—** The [Attorney General](/usc/34/10307.md?p=1) is authorized to provide grants to [States](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) and units of local government to improve and implement processes for entering data regarding [stalking](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-36) and [domestic violence](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-12) into local, [State](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7), and [national crime information databases](/usc/34/12410.md?p=1).
- (b) **Eligibility—** To be eligible to receive a grant under [subsection (a)](#a), a [State](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) or [unit of local government](/usc/34/11103.md?p=8) shall certify that it has or intends to establish a program that enters into the National Crime Information Center records of—
  - (1) warrants for the arrest of persons violating [protection orders](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-29) intended to protect victims from [stalking](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-36) or [domestic violence](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-12);
  - (2) arrests or convictions of persons violating protection[^1] or [domestic violence](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-12); and
  - (3) [protection orders](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-29) for the protection of persons from [stalking](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-36) or [domestic violence](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-12).
