# §10641. Grant authority


The [Attorney General](/usc/34/10307.md?p=1) shall award grants to [rural State](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-33) criminal justice agencies, Byrne agencies, or other agencies as designated by the Governor of that [State](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) and approved by the [Attorney General](/usc/34/10307.md?p=1), to develop [rural States](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-33)’ capacity to assist local communities in the prevention and reduction of crime, violence, and substance abuse.
