# §10496. Discretionary research grants


The [Attorney General](/usc/34/10307.md?p=1) may reserve 10 percent of funds to award research grants to a [State](/usc/34/11103.md?p=7) or local [law enforcement](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-23) agency or organization to study issues of importance in the [law enforcement](/usc/34/12291.md?p=a-23) field as determined by the [Attorney General](/usc/34/10307.md?p=1).
