# §3027. General qualification of officers for promotion to higher permanent grade


No [officer](/usc/33/3002.md?p=b-3) may be promoted to a higher permanent [grade](/usc/33/3002.md?p=b-2) on the active list until the [officer](/usc/33/3002.md?p=b-3) has passed a satisfactory mental and physical examination in accordance with regulations prescribed by the [Secretary](/usc/33/3002.md?p=b-6).
