# §7101. Purposes


The purposes of this chapter are to—

- (1) enable [States](/usc/31/6201.md?p=2), [local governments](/usc/31/6302.md?p=3), and private [nonprofit organizations](/usc/31/7501.md?p=a-14) to use [assistance](/usc/31/6501.md?p=1) of the United States Government more effectively and efficiently;
- (2) adapt the [assistance](/usc/31/6501.md?p=1) more readily to particular needs through wider use of [projects](/usc/31/7102.md?p=4) that are supported by more than one executive [agency](/usc/31/6401.md?p=1), [assistance program](/usc/31/7102.md?p=2), or appropriation of the United States Government; and
- (3) encourage Federal-[State](/usc/31/6201.md?p=2) arrangements under which [local governments](/usc/31/6302.md?p=3) and private [nonprofit organizations](/usc/31/7501.md?p=a-14) may more effectively and efficiently combine Federal and [State](/usc/31/6201.md?p=2) resources to support [projects](/usc/31/7102.md?p=4) of common interest to those [local governments](/usc/31/6302.md?p=3) and those organizations.

In the chapter, the words “executive agency” are substituted for “Federal agency” because of the definition in section 102 of the revised title. The words “assistance program” are substituted for “Federal assistance programs” because of the definition in section 7102 of the revised title.

In the section, the words “resources available from” and “It is the further purpose of this chapter” are omitted as unnecessary because of the restatement.
