# §1723. Rewards


Where amounts representing [royalty](/usc/30/1702.md?p=14) or other [payments](/usc/30/1702.md?p=28) owed to the [United States](/usc/30/1702.md?p=33) with respect to any oil and gas [lease](/usc/30/1702.md?p=5) on [Federal lands](/usc/30/1702.md?p=1) or the Outer Continental Shelf are recovered pursuant to any action taken by the [Secretary](/usc/30/1702.md?p=15) under this chapter as a result of information provided to the [Secretary](/usc/30/1702.md?p=15) by any [person](/usc/30/1702.md?p=12), the [Secretary](/usc/30/1702.md?p=15) is authorized to pay to such [person](/usc/30/1702.md?p=12) an amount equal to not more than 10 percent of such recovered amounts. The preceding sentence shall not apply to information provided by an officer or employee of the [United States](/usc/30/1702.md?p=33), an officer or employee of a [State](/usc/30/1702.md?p=16) or [Indian tribe](/usc/30/1702.md?p=4) acting pursuant to a cooperative agreement or delegation under this chapter, or any [person](/usc/30/1702.md?p=12) acting pursuant to a contract authorized by this chapter.
