# §3009. United States marshals’ authority to designate keeper


Whenever a [United States marshal](/usc/28/3002.md?p=16) is authorized to seize [property](/usc/28/3002.md?p=12) pursuant to this chapter, the [United States marshal](/usc/28/3002.md?p=16) may designate another [person](/usc/28/3002.md?p=10) or Federal [agency](/usc/28/2341.md?p=3) to hold for safekeeping such [property](/usc/28/3002.md?p=12) seized.
