# §1713. Protection against loss by class members


The court may approve a [proposed settlement](/usc/28/1711.md?p=6) under which any [class](/usc/28/1711.md?p=1) member is obligated to pay sums to [class counsel](/usc/28/1711.md?p=3) that would result in a net loss to the [class](/usc/28/1711.md?p=1) member only if the court makes a written finding that nonmonetary benefits to the [class](/usc/28/1711.md?p=1) member substantially outweigh the monetary loss.
