# §4234. Repayment


If the [Department of Hawaiian Home Lands](/usc/25/4221.md?p=1) uses grant amounts to provide [affordable housing](/usc/25/4103.md?p=2) under activities under this subchapter and, at any time during the useful life of the housing, the housing does not comply with the requirement under [section 4232(a)(2) of this title](/usc/25/4232.md?p=a-2), the [Secretary](/usc/25/4103.md?p=20) shall—

- (1) reduce future grant payments on behalf of the [Department](/usc/25/4221.md?p=1) by an amount equal to the grant amounts used for that housing (under the authority of [section 4238(a)(2) of this title](/usc/25/4238.md?p=a-2)); or
- (2) require repayment to the [Secretary](/usc/25/4103.md?p=20) of any amount equal to those grant amounts.
