# §2709. Interim authority to regulate gaming


Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, the [Secretary](/usc/25/2703.md?p=10) shall continue to exercise those authorities vested in the [Secretary](/usc/25/2703.md?p=10) on the day before October 17, 1988, relating to supervision of Indian gaming until such time as the [Commission](/usc/25/2703.md?p=3) is organized and prescribes regulations. The [Secretary](/usc/25/2703.md?p=10) shall provide staff and support assistance to facilitate an orderly transition to regulation of Indian gaming by the [Commission](/usc/25/2703.md?p=3).
