# §9123. Consultations with foreign governments


As soon as practicable after the Secretary of State makes a determination under [section 9121 of this title](/usc/22/9121.md) in response to a failure to resolve [unresolved abduction cases](/usc/22/9101.md?p=23-A) or the [Secretary](/usc/22/277d–43.md?p=5) takes an action under subsection (d) or (e) of [section 9122 of this title](/usc/22/9122.md), based on a [pattern of noncompliance](/usc/22/9101.md?p=19-A), the [Secretary](/usc/22/277d–43.md?p=5) shall request consultations with the government of such country regarding the situation giving rise to such determination.
