# §6991. Accession of Taiwan to the WTO


It is the sense of the Congress that—

- (1) immediately upon approval by the General Council of the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5) of the terms and conditions of the accession of the People’s Republic of China to the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5), the United States representative to the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5) should request that the General Council of the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5) consider Taiwan’s accession to the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5) as the next order of business of the Council during the same session; and
- (2) the United States should be prepared to aggressively counter any effort by any [WTO member](/usc/22/6903.md?p=7), upon the approval of the General Council of the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5) of the terms and conditions of the accession of the People’s Republic of China to the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5), to block the accession of Taiwan to the [WTO](/usc/22/6903.md?p=5).
