# §5451. Assistance in support of democratic institutions in Poland and Hungary

- (a) **Authorization of assistance—** In addition to amounts otherwise available for such purposes, there are authorized to be appropriated to carry out [chapter 4](/usc/22/chch4.md) of part II of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 ([22 U.S.C. 2346](/usc/22/2346.md) and following; relating to the economic [support](/usc/22/7432.md?p=12) fund) $12,000,000 for the 3-year period beginning October 1, 1989, which shall be available only for the [support](/usc/22/7432.md?p=12) of democratic institutions and activities in Poland and Hungary.
- (b) **Nonapplicability of other laws—** Assistance may be provided under this section notwithstanding any other provision of law.
