# §449. American republics


This subchapter (except [section 452](/usc/22/452.md)[^1] of this title) shall not apply to any American republic engaged in war against a non-American [state](/usc/22/456.md?p=e) or [states](/usc/22/456.md?p=e), provided the American republic is not cooperating with a non-American [state](/usc/22/456.md?p=e) or [states](/usc/22/456.md?p=e) in such war.
