# §4069. Thrift Savings Fund participation


[Participants](/usc/22/4071a.md?p=5) in this [System](/usc/22/4071a.md?p=10) shall be deemed to be employees for the purposes of [section 8351 of title 5](/usc/5/8351.md). Any reference in such [section 8351](/usc/5/8351.md) or in subchapter III of [chapter 84](/usc/22/chch84.md) of such [title 5](/usc/5.md) to retirement or separation under subchapter III of [chapter 83](/usc/22/chch83.md) or [chapter 84](/usc/22/chch84.md) of such [title 5](/usc/5.md) shall be deemed to be references to retirement or separation under part I or II of this subchapter with similar benefits or entitlements with respect to [participants](/usc/22/4071a.md?p=5) under such part I or II, respectively.
