# §2799. Purpose


The purpose of this subchapter is to authorize the President to [support](/usc/22/7432.md?p=12), consistent with the [CFE Treaty](/usc/22/2799d.md?p=1), a [NATO](/usc/22/2799d.md?p=3) equipment transfer program that will—

- (1) enhance [NATO](/usc/22/2799d.md?p=3)’s forces,
- (2) increase [NATO](/usc/22/2799d.md?p=3) standardization and interoperability, and
- (3) better distribute defense burdens within the [NATO](/usc/22/2799d.md?p=3) alliance.
