# §9623. Definitions


In this subchapter:

- (1) The term “[Director](/usc/20/9501.md?p=9)” means the [Director](/usc/20/9501.md?p=9) of the [Institute](/usc/20/9501.md?p=14) of Education Sciences.
- (2) The term “[State](/usc/20/9501.md?p=22)” means each of the 50 [States](/usc/20/9501.md?p=22), the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
