# §75f. Director; appointment and compensation; officers and employees

- (a) The [Board](/usc/20/75a.md?p=a) may appoint and fix the compensation and duties of a director of the [Gallery](/usc/20/75a.md?p=c), and his appointment and salary shall not be subject to the civil-service laws or [chapter 51](/usc/20/chch51.md) and subchapter III of chapter 53 of title 5. The [Board](/usc/20/75a.md?p=a) may employ such other officers and employees as may be necessary for the efficient administration, operation, and maintenance of the [Gallery](/usc/20/75a.md?p=c).
- (b) The [Board](/usc/20/75a.md?p=a) may delegate to the [Secretary](/usc/20/1221.md?p=c-4) of the Smithsonian Institution, as well as to the [Commission](/usc/20/75a.md?p=b), any of its functions pursuant to [subsection (a)](#a) of this section.
