# §7221g. Records transfer


[State educational agencies](/usc/20/7801.md?p=49) and [local educational agencies](/usc/20/7801.md?p=30-A), as quickly as possible and to the extent practicable, shall ensure that a student’s records and, if applicable, a student’s individualized education program as defined in [section 1401 of this title](/usc/20/1401.md), are transferred to a [charter school](/usc/20/7221i.md?p=2) upon the transfer of the student to the [charter school](/usc/20/7221i.md?p=2), and to another public school upon the transfer of the student from a [charter school](/usc/20/7221i.md?p=2) to another public school, in accordance with applicable [State](/usc/20/7171.md?p=b-6) law.
