# §5983. Grants authorized; authorization of appropriations

- (a) **Grants authorized—**
  - (1) **In general—** The [Secretary](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-12) is authorized to make grants to [eligible entities](/usc/20/5984.md?p=1) for the development and implementation of seminars in American government and civics for elementary and secondary [school](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-11) teachers and other educators who work with minority and Native American students.
  - (2) **Award rule—** In awarding grants under this subchapter, the [Secretary](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-12) shall ensure that there is wide geographic distribution of such grants.
- (b) **Authorization of appropriations—** There are authorized to be appropriated $5,000,000 for fiscal 1995, and such sums as may be necessary for each of the fiscal years 1996, 1997, and 1998, to carry out this subchapter.
