# §5961. Short title; statement of purpose

- (a) **Short title—** This subchapter may be cited as the “Safe Schools Act of 1994”.
- (b) **Statement of purpose—** It is the purpose of this subchapter to help local [school](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-11) systems achieve Goal Six[^1] of the National Education Goals, which provides that by the year 2000, every [school](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-11) in America will be free of drugs and violence and will offer a disciplined environment conducive to learning, by ensuring that all [schools](/usc/20/5802.md?p=a-11) are safe and free of violence.
