# §1881a. Providing Capitol-flown flags for families of fallen heroes

- (a) **In general—** At the request of an [immediate family member](/usc/2/1881.md?p=3) of a [firefighter](/usc/2/1881.md?p=2), [law enforcement officer](/usc/2/1881.md?p=2), [member of a rescue squad or ambulance crew](/usc/2/1881.md?p=2), or [public safety officer](/usc/2/1881.md?p=4) who died in the line of duty, the [Representative](/usc/2/1881.md?p=5) or Senator of the family may provide to the family a [Capitol-flown flag](/usc/2/1881.md?p=1), together with the certificate described in [subsection (c)](#c).
- (b) **No cost to family—** A [Capitol-flown flag](/usc/2/1881.md?p=1) provided under this section shall be provided at no cost to the family.
- (c) **Certificate—** The certificate described in this subsection is a certificate which is signed by the Speaker of the House of [Representatives](/usc/2/1881.md?p=5) and the [Representative](/usc/2/1881.md?p=5), or the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Senator, providing the [Capitol-flown flag](/usc/2/1881.md?p=1), as applicable, and which contains an expression of sympathy for the family involved from the House of [Representatives](/usc/2/1881.md?p=5) or the Senate, as applicable.
