# §136–1. Appointment and term of service of Librarian of Congress

- (a) **In general—** The President shall appoint the [Librarian](/usc/2/179u.md?p=1) of Congress, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate.
- (b) **Term of service—** The [Librarian](/usc/2/179u.md?p=1) of Congress shall be appointed for a term of 10 years.
- (c) **Reappointment—** An individual appointed to the position of [Librarian](/usc/2/179u.md?p=1) of Congress, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, may be reappointed to that position in accordance with subsections [(a)](#a) and [(b)](#b).
- (d) **Effective date—** This section shall apply with respect to appointments made on or after November 5, 2015.
