# §1838. Construction with other laws


Except as provided in [section 1833(b)](/usc/18/1833.md?p=b), this chapter shall not be construed to preempt or displace any other remedies, whether civil or criminal, provided by [United States](/usc/18/229F.md?p=9) Federal, [State](/usc/18/31.md?p=a-9), commonwealth, possession, or territory law for the [misappropriation](/usc/18/1839.md?p=5) of a [trade secret](/usc/18/1839.md?p=3), or to affect the otherwise lawful disclosure of information by any Government [employee](/usc/18/202.md?p=c) under [section 552 of title 5](/usc/5/552.md) (commonly known as the Freedom of Information Act).
