# §1019. Certificates by consular officers


[Whoever](/usc/18/921.md?p=a-1), being a consul, or vice consul, or other [person](/usc/18/229F.md?p=5) employed in the consular service of the [United States](/usc/18/229F.md?p=9), knowingly certifies falsely to any invoice, or other paper, to which his certificate is authorized or required by law, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
