# §916f. Violations; fines and penalties


Except as to [violations](/usc/16/620e.md?p=11) defined in clause 3 of subsection (a) of [section 916c of this title](/usc/16/916c.md), any [person](/usc/16/450rr–1.md?p=b) violating any provision of the convention, or of any regulation of the [Commission](/usc/16/544.md?p=c), or of this subchapter, or of any regulation of the [Secretary](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-1) of Commerce upon conviction, shall be fined not more than $10,000 or be imprisoned not more than one year, or both. In [addition](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-2) the court may prohibit such [person](/usc/16/450rr–1.md?p=b) from whaling for such period of time as it may determine, and may order forfeited, in whole or in part, the whales taken by such [person](/usc/16/450rr–1.md?p=b) in whaling during the season, or the whale products derived therefrom or the monetary value thereof. Such forfeited whales or whale products shall be disposed of in accordance with the direction of the court.
