# §8411. Congressional declaration of policy


Congress declares that it is the policy of the Federal Government to foster and encourage recreation on [Federal recreational lands and waters](/usc/16/8401.md?p=2), to the extent consistent with the laws applicable to specific [areas](/usc/16/539m–1.md?p=1-A) of [Federal recreational lands and waters](/usc/16/8401.md?p=2), including multiple-use mandates and land management planning requirements.
