# §8301. Purpose


The purpose of this chapter is to legislatively authorize the Coastal Program of the [Service](/usc/16/8302.md?p=12) in effect as of December 11, 2024, to conduct collaborative landscape-level planning and on-the-ground [coastal habitat assessment](/usc/16/8302.md?p=2), [coastal habitat protection](/usc/16/8302.md?p=5-A), [coastal habitat restoration](/usc/16/8302.md?p=6), and [coastal habitat enhancement](/usc/16/8302.md?p=3) [projects](/usc/16/410r–5.md?p=c-4) in priority [coastal landscapes](/usc/16/8302.md?p=7) to conserve and recover [Federal trust species](/usc/16/8302.md?p=9).
