# §7143. Certification

- (a) **In general—** Not later than February 1 of the year after the year in which any [county funds](/usc/16/7141.md?p=1) were expended by a [participating county](/usc/16/7121.md?p=1), the appropriate official of the [participating county](/usc/16/7121.md?p=1) shall submit to the [Secretary concerned](/usc/16/7102.md?p=15) a certification that the [county funds](/usc/16/7141.md?p=1) expended in the applicable year have been used for the uses authorized under [section 7142(a) of this title](/usc/16/7142.md?p=a), including a description of the amounts expended and the uses for which the amounts were expended.
- (b) **Review—** The [Secretary concerned](/usc/16/7102.md?p=15) shall review the certifications submitted under [subsection (a)](#a) as the [Secretary concerned](/usc/16/7102.md?p=15) determines to be appropriate.
